JEREMIAD ON ROMANCE: "WHEN WOULD I BE..." BY AJAKAYE STRIDA

When would I be loved?
Truly loved as leaves kiss liquid,
my heart running from sun to rain all days,
skin cold with emotional reciprocations becoming traitors.

When would I be loved,
by the eyes I imagine when I see dawn?
Being cheated constantly
as corruption cheats Nigeria.

When would I be loved?
Truly loved, by the soul I choose,
maybe I shall be loved
when I meet a surgeon to extract my heart.

When would I be loved?
Maybe when I act heartlessly and wildly
as the hawks feed on chicks,
sincerity does not pay anymore.

The poet persona laments over not being loved by someone who she truly loves. Hence, the voice has been broken several times and sees being heartless as a solution to emotional pitfalls.
